"Rollin" - SOLD

These guys do seem like they are rolling-a-round a bit. I really like working with these dark reds, but they are so hard to control. I'm wondering if anyone uses something with their alizarin crimson to beef it up a bit. You know, give it that thicker pasty feel, rather than vegetable oil mixed with water.
Thanks all for the nice comments lately.

"Apple with Two Mugs" - SOLD

Oh, I feel like I am on a plateau right now. It's not such a bad thing, but I'm sure most of you have felt the same about your own work at times. Maybe I should start getting some larger works going....

"Boost No.2" - SOLD

I had to get a lot of other things done today, so I really pushed myself to paint faster. I think I got this one done in a little over one hour, and I'm happy with it. My old palette is starting to wear out, and I think I need to make a new one. It is actually kind of sad to see it nearing its final days...I'll take some photos of it and post them soon.

"Stroll" - SOLD

I have wanted to try some different lighting lately, and I think I really liked how this one lit. I actually used two different lights bulbs. One light is just a regular daylight bulb, and the second is a pink bulb that gives off a warm, soft, and sort of reddish color. I really liked the color produced by the two lights together, and I think I will try it again. The actual photo of this painting doesn't show the subtlety of the table top too well, but there are three sheets of paper.

"Backlight"

The light in my studio changed quite a but when the sun went down. Unfortunately I was in the middle of the painting, and I felt like I was battling the rest of the time.

"Alongside" - SOLD

I don't know why every painting can't go as smooth as this one. This one was a fun one to paint, and I did not seem to run into too many problems. I did have a hard time starting though, and decide to go and buy some new mugs to get me going (one of which is above). If I had it my way I would probably buy new stuff to paint every day, but that would get pricey. However, if I get stuck it always seem to help to get out and buy something.

"Thirsty" - SOLD

I found this great little glass pitcher and have been trying to get it in a painting. It is a shorter one, and I really liked the strong shape it has. I think I will try painting it again, and see if I can get all of it on the canvas next time.

My teacher and good friend John Erickson has a new website. I have always admired his work. He was my primary introduction into art during college, and is one of the best college teachers out there. Which is often hard to find. Check out his work.

"Bullseye" - SOLD

I was a bit sick last week and did not get a chance to paint, and today I suffered for it. I think this painting was my third attempt. I was close to calling it quits. But, I'm glad I didn't. My good friend Zach Proctor always professed to keep painting through the tough times. I think he is right.

"Triad" - SOLD

Thanks all for your great input on good luck.

Well, I am going for the same theme here. I actually really like painting limes. I like their shapes, and colors...they are a bold and funky fruit.

"Good Luck" - SOLD

Well it's a brand new year, and I think we are all going to need some good luck. My family always eats black eyed peas on new years day for good luck. My wife never heard of this passage into the new year until she met my family, but when I went to the grocery store to buy the black eyed peas only two cans were left. So, I know many others eat these peas for their luck. I would actually be interested how many others rely on the power of the black eyed pea.
