I tend to paint rather slow. When I tell people each painting takes between two to three hours, some seem surprised. But really, even if my brush strokes appear loose or quick, I actually try to deliberately place each piece of paint. There are, however, some really great painters who can lay down a painting in twenty minuets. I've watched the videos, and they amazes me. But, I like the comfort of working slow.

Painting loose is not a slapdash system. It takes great knowledge, though and skill to render a subject so beautifully and not just have a haphazard mess. You have proven yourself over and over to have the necessary qualities to execute the sublime. Your work inspires me every time I see it.
OOps thought not though
It's interesting to think that you work slowly and with careful consideration. Your ability to distill a lot of visual information into something essential takes years of practice (as well as total concentration).
I just discovered your blog and your work is beautiful. I especially like the way your colors have such harmony, background color can be so important yet so difficult, your backgrounds always seem to enhance your paintings.

The eye recognizes the deliberately thoughtful work. In another post you mentioned covering up a perfect mark, just by being over exhuberant. I hate when I kill the freshness!
